Expectations

At the beginning of each course that I work with, I create a list of expectations or things that I hope to accomplish while working with the students.  When thinking about Historiography, it is hard not to get caught up in the topic you choose.  One difficulty is maintaining a view of the literature and how it reflects on the topic, but not the subject itself.

When working with students in the past I have noticed a similar issue, and many of my expectations deal with avoiding this and other misconceptions about historiography and historic research.

1. Students will be able to visually demonstrate the historiography of their topic
2. I would like to learn from them about the various topics they have selected
3. Research will be simplified and streamlined so it no longer seems overwhelming
4. We can collaborate so the final products are unique and informative
5. Students experience a different kind of library instruction
